THE AMMONITE BIJOUX
Two ~19mm diameter black ammonites, unearthed by hand on England’s Jurassic Coast then framed in engraved 18k gold-plated, 9k gold as a set of unique clip-on earrings. Ammonites are now ancient beasts who, like their contemporary relatives, squids and nautili, were free swimming and predatorial. Their characteristic shells, in their lives divided into chambers to be filled with liquid and gas to keep them buoyant, are often perfectly preserved, and resemble the coiled horn of a ram — the symbol for the Egyptian god ‘Ammon’ from whom their name is derived.
